THE NEW SEASON AND JOE ALLEN

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/aug/08/liverpool-joe-allen-swansea-city

This is good news cause if it goes through we will likely not have Spearing playing very many minutes.

Wonder what this does to Lucas' position though and it makes you wonder what tactics and formation  Rodgers is thinking to employ?

4231 or 442 or 433 which has been widely covered. With minor adjustments I guess one could make Allen part of the central pair in a 4231 with your normal D (reina, Johnson, Skertel, Agger and Enrique, Lucas and allen in the defensive positions and with Suarez left, Downing right and Gerrard centrally and Borini up top. Carroll and Adam and Jonjo are options in many positions but it appears to me that we are bit short in the winger positions. Sterling and pacheco is options and he may get the best out of those players. If he chosses to use Kelly at right back I think there are a lot to be said for Glen Johnson (which I have mentioned a gazillion times) on the right mid or right wing position. If we do that I do not think we will miss Kuyt very much but difficult to say. Dirk had a tendency to come up with goals in big games. Important goals!

Also I think Adam and Carroll are not part of the long term plans due to the lack of mobility. Adam has the passing range and could get some playing time but I suspect he may not start for Liverpool. Just because of so much of what Brendan Rodgers is trying to do defensively depends on closing down quickly.

Anyway, starting to get excited about the new season.

Let me know what you think about this as well.
