Why Ronaldo maybe should play through the middle.

Makes for interesting reading anway?

Jonathan Wilson knows his stuff.

http://www.zonalmarking.net/2012/06/14/spain-4-0-ireland-whitewash/ another interesting analysis by Michael Cox. His tactical knowledge is impressive.

I personally do not think he gave Torres enough credit for that win though. Last night against Croatia, I did not see the game but I have read he was far from impressive.

England are through to the group stages after a slightly lucky win in my book. It annoyed me while watching the game that England were so cautious pushing only the odd player forward and into the box when they attacked.

When there were space at the end I was suprised that he put on Carroll instead of another quick striker inbehind. Yes, Carroll would hold the ball up a bit but Defoe would have the pace to get inbehind when Ukraine had to push forward.

Glad for Roy to be through. Thought Ashley cole and Gerrard were excellent today. Gerrard's 3rd assist of the tournament (dont know if he got it credited due to the bounces before Rooney got his head to the ball), and that is impressive.

I personally think Italy is beatable and since they are playing with the system of 3 at the back and can often get a bit narrow I would be gutsy and play Carroll up top with Walcott and Young on the wings in order to get inbehind with rooney in the hole and with the same starting 11 for the rest of the pitch as we had tonight.

Can see Roy continuing with Milner though, who apart from a few flashes today I didnt think had a great game.

Look forward to Sunday.
