Good article on Carroll.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/dec/29/andy-carroll-newcastle-liverpool

As have been widely reported in media lately, I think Andy Carroll has been quite unlucky with some chances in certain games were great saves despite decent finishes has lost Liverpool points. Specifically great ones against Man City, Norwich, Wigan and most recently against Blackburn. Had even 2 of those chances been goals, and for all of them I must stress that he has been unlucky not to score, I think he would have been deemed a success and the key reason Liverpool are up there in the top 4.

Now that we are not he is being blamed as the reason for our failure so far of winning enough home games.

Should he be? I do not think so. I would argue his lack of success is primarily down to lack of luck and lack of playing time.

The next few games I suspect will prove if I am right. Hopefully he will get chances to start up front with bellamy instead of kuyt or gerrard right behind in a 4 2 2. I think it is in that system he would fit best, due to his lack of mobility (he needs a striking partner).

Also saw on the echo that John Aldridge thinks he can work on his positioning and movement in and around the box. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-fc/2011/12/28/john-aldridge-andy-carroll-must-learn-better-penalty-area-positioning-100252-30020722/ Tens to agree with some of those comments but also tend to agree with comments mentioned in last boxing day's Match of the day by Alan Shearer where he though all he needs is regular first team football. It is hard to make an impact as a bit part player in most games.

Since I wrote about Torres in my last blog post I just thought I would mention the following. Thought there were some very interesting ideas put forward by Mark Lawrenson on Torres and why he is not succeeding. His simple view was that he is not spending enough time inside the box. He drops too deep and out wide too much for chelsea and that leads to him being in less goal scoring opportunities, and makes him run less in behind defences. I think Mr. Lawrenson has a really good point and Alan Shearer seemed to support it. Another view offered was he does not have the confidence of his manager AVB which is never beneficial to any player. If you feel the manager does not believe in you it simply can not help you.

Hopefully we can pick up a much needed win against Newcastle tomorrow and win by a few goals scored by bellamy, downing and Carroll. Would help team confidence in goal scoring lots.

Stian
