Not sure this is a great deal for downing. I thought we could have asked for more money for him.
I guess that means Sterling and Ibe has leapfrogged him in the fight for a first team place. If that is the case I am quite positive. Having said that we lose crucial experience but maybe that is not a bad thing if you replace it with hunger. I am not sure Downing ever had the hunger.
Depleting the squad is not what we need to do at this stage. Maybe we are saving some money for Jan when we hopefully should be close to top 4 if not in it.
I think guardian is right in that 6th place is more likely. Maybe 5th because Rodgers has a full season under his belt.
