Re: BBC Sport - Football Association report says Luis Suarez evidence 'unreliable'

Andrew, I must say I disagree with you.

8 games for Luis Suarez' use of language in the argument with Patrice Evra is simply too much. I realise what the FA Is trying to do is to make an example out of Suarez and I do not agree with it.

I am the first to disagree with the way he acted and I do not agree with the way Evra was starting the abuse either by saying things about Suarez' sister. 8 games however is too much. 4 games would have made the exact same impact, news story and all the rest.

FA should work harder to get rid of all kind of abuse. With your statement below I wonder if you condone the swearing that goes on in football, never mind the abuse about someones family members etc. To me that is far worse than someone being called a negro or negrito. I do not believe either should go on and I think both should be punished but FA has in their report spoke loud and clear that it is ok to say things about ones family members which is how the arguement between Evra and Suarez started.

When speaking to other football fans and I have discussed this with quite a few people the majority agree with me.

Racism is a far bigger problem in countries like Spain and Italy where the monkey sounds are common and the football associations have done far less to deal with the problem in those countries. To me that is also much more severe offence likening coloured/black people to monkeys. If that was the case here it should have been dealt with in a much more severe manner and perhaps suspension for a season or two would be appropriate.

I am all for eradicating racism from the game and it is therefore I agree with him being punished, but having said that I also believe we much be careful of making a scapegoat of one offeder when there are worse things going on in the game.

Video reffing

On another note, could you believe that the goal stood yesterday in the Sunderland - Manchester City game. To me that is more of a disgrace than any abuse and should be of the upmost concern to the FA. There has been so many incidents now that determine games where referees make huge mistakes. It could potentially decide the title this one... City should have had a least a point and I would argue they had a shout for a penalty as well in that game.

It was a clear offside goal and anyone seeing a replay (4th referee that is already present and already have a screen available to him) would have been able to look at it and decide within 10 -15 seconds. The sad state of affairs currently is that referees are not able to use video evidence, and this is despite putting the mechanism in place would make the majority of decisions and arguably all clear cut decisions correct.

The status quo is that now it is down to luck for the most part or hoping that any of the referees present are in a position to see it correctly. Yesteday it was the linesman that was not in position for the goal and really the counter-attack happened so fast that it could have been hard to keep up. I would argue that he still should have but that does not change the fact that video reffing should become part of the game now.

How it should happen with challenges etc? Only at controversial situations etc. will have to be decided but there is too many important devisions which easily could be decided fairly, but currenlty due to the idiocy of Sepp Blatter and his colleagues at UEFA and also FA continued to be a matter of luck or perhaps chance.

Ah, Gunnar, you must take off your Liverpool glasses when reading. Suarez got what he deserved for using racist language. "Swearing" is nothing like racism. What I would like to see is that empty head Dalglish get 10 games. The fact that he knew all of the below and let his players wear shirts in support of Suarez is despicable. He was a great player and a mediocre manager, but he has the IQ of a 12 year old.

I have just read through this article from BBC and in my opinion neither Suarez nor Evra acted admirably in the argument. What I am left with after reading quite a bit on this story is this: 8 games is to much when both were clearly in the wrong.

Lastly I would ask people that objective in the matter this; is it ok to talk derogatory about someone's sister more than talk derogatory about someone's backround or colour of skin?

Both should be punished and consistency in punishment of these offences is key if you are going to start dealing with them. The same goes for for swearing which is a much bigger problem in English football and should be dealt with along with these other issues.

The fact is trash talking has gone on for long periods of time and to crack down on unreasonable trash talk is hard to do because it becomes a he said, she said kind of game...

FA unfortunately got this wrong but I would suggest both should be punished an equal number of games.
