Page 3 highlights the character of the team at Liverpool. We have done extremely well considering the recent injuries to Kelly, Johnson, Agger and Gerrard.
Personally I thought Aurelio was right up there as man of the match. It is a shame he is so injury prone and part of the reason Andy Carroll flurishes in this game is the service he got from Aurelio. Saying that he worked hard, scored to brilliant goals and was a tower up front that could hold on to the ball and pass it on to people if we needed relief from the Man City pressure in the second half.
The commentators at Setanta pointed out that Carroll did not have as much of a physical battle as he had had in the West Brom game for example. I think they were spot on in that respect. The City defenders were abject at times and let him roam around and win many of the clearances coming out of defence.
Although we were the better team the result was somewhat flattering. We should remember that arguably some of City's best players was not on the pitch for a lot of the game. Tevez got taken off early, De Jonge did not come on till late and the same was true for David Silva.
Never the less it was a great win but keep in mind that we are still lacking the width from proper wingers that can beat people.
Carra is on his last legs and will be more and more injury prone as time goes on. Aurelio has always been injury prone and is on the wrong side of 30. Both played great and was part of the steady defensive performance on Monday. We are going to need replacements there.
