Is this just a desperate attempt of staying positive? I do not think so. I think this could benefit Liverpool majorly and have been saying this for a while. Get mereiles in the middle, johnson on right mid, kelly back in the squad and Skretel and Carra in the middle again like against Chelsea.

Babel and Ngog should also get a run out in my opinion. Watch Poulsen and Mereiles star in the Liverpool midfield on Sunday.

Here is to me hoping anwyay,

Richard Simpson outlines TEAMtalk's contingency plan that could dry the tears of Liverpool fans in the absence of Steven Gerrard.

As dejected Liverpool fans survey the damage and the black hole ripped through the heart of their team, £500,000 in compensation payments will seem like little comfort.

Staring into the abyss, the news of Gerrard's injury could not have come at a worse time. A potential banana skin fixture looms with the visit of West Ham to Anfield. Although to Roy Hodgson and most Liverpool fans, there may no longer be such a thing.

But what if this dreadful news could somehow be turned into a positive? So as Stevie G sits on the sidelines, TEAMtalk proposes a maverick managerial manoeuvre for Roy to consider.

It could help them get the best out of £11.5 million man Raul Meireles. It could prevent Glen Johnson from leaving the club. It could even result in them winning a few games.

With a huge hole to fill in the centre of midfield, begin by moving Raul Meireles into the centre of the park. Clearly a quality player, Meireles is wasted out on the right where he is currently being deployed. The Portuguese international has expressed his displeasure at being played out of position, so this could finally be the opportunity to unleash him on the Premier League.

Step two, move Glen Johnson forward and into the right wing position. Unless you have been living under a rock for the past month you will have seen the success Spurs have enjoyed on the opposite flank through Gareth Bale. To install a buccaneering full-back without having to worry about his defensive duties is the holy grail, and could pay dividends for Hodgson.

This switch could also be vital for the club with rumours circling about Johnson heading towards the Anfield exit door. It could revitalise his stuttering Liverpool career.

The third and final step in this three-way shuffle is to install Martin Kelly at right back on a full-time basis. Picking Kelly over Carragher may be controversial, but the 20 year-old provides drive, imagination and pace moving forward. This would give the side a much more solid feel at the back, removing much of the defensive naivety that has blighted them this season. Importantly it would bring balance and harmony to a side that has rarely been singing from the same hymn sheet this season.

With players playing in their preferred positions this could finally provide Hodgson's men with the cutting edge they have been so sadly lacking. Not to mention being the way to appease two players who combined, are worth more than Blackburn Rovers! Not bad for a short-term fix.

Hopefully Roy will listen to our advice. What does he really have to lose? As a man under pressure from all sides, this could be a means of finally turning that much talked-about corner. Let's not forget this is a team that only lie a scant three points above the relegation zone. Things look bleak for Liverpool, this could be their salvation. After all, the night is always darkest before the dawn.
