England Denmark

I taped the England Denmark game and with 5 LFC players in the line up it was a treat to see. http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/mar/06/daniel-sturridge-subtlety-england-international-thoroughbred-in-making

I read the blog above. Agree with some of the comments but not all. Thought England were more positive than what Barney Roonay mentions throughout. Especially in the first half as a team. Kept possession expertly. Second half was a different story where Denmark made some tactical adjustments and got more into the game.

For those of you who didn't see the game England's starting 11 was a 4231 with the following line up: Hart,
Johnson, cahill, Smalling, Cole,
Gerrard, Henderson,
Sterling, Wilshire sturridge,
Rooney

The front 4 rotated much as mentioned above although sterling stayed wide consistently and rooney and Wilshire tried for the most part to stay in the centre alternating from time to time in dropping deeper into midfield. Sturridge spent most of his time out on the wing and although it happened from time to time the times he arrived in goal scoring positions centrally up front (in the box) was more rare and I agree with Barney Rooneys assessment in that department above.

We all recall how well Sturridge did in that central position before Suarez returned back from his suspension at the start of the premier League season.

Sterling got man of the match and played the way he has done with LFC lately. He continues to impress me and I agree with pundits saying he likely cemented his place in the squad for the summer (assuming he continues to perform for Liverpool).

Although the second half was worse from an England perspective in terms of fluidity and possession stats (at least the first 25 mins of the half) players that played well and stood out included Luke shaw and Adam Lallana. They both deserve places in the squad based on their play for Southampton this year and they both had very good half's in the friendly. Lallana also capped his performance with an excellent crossed assist for Sturridge's winner after one of his trademark croyff turns (which by the way may just be the best impersonation of Johan himself since his playing days). Those who have watched soton this year will know what I am on about.

Can't wait for the Chelsea Tottenham match tomorrow. Think there is a decent chance Spurs may surprise some people although I suspect Chelsea may go after Michael Dawson (the huge Spurs weakness in central defence).

LFC do not play till next week.

YNWA,
Stian
