Suarez was a great first step, Carroll was a great second but we never should have stopped there.
The fact that no-one has realised how we desperately need to replace Mascerano and Alonso is beyond me.
Lucas is not quick enough and when we play Gerrard at central mid he doesn't track back.
He jogs casually and doesn't look to be interested in games like this. Lucas tries hard but does not have the ability but one can't say the same for gerrard.
This is supposed to be our leader and our talisman and he doesn't seem to care in the first half.
How can one have a man like that leading liverpool.
I personally think we should strip him of the captaincy and give it to Carra until Gerrard shows he cares from the get-go against teams in the lower half.
Coming back to what I started with, we need someone to replace alonso and mascerano in central of mid, look at Scotty Parker today.
There is a typical leader that cares. Great first goal, great spirit, great effort, great at chasing back and great at inspiring confidence and work rate throughout the team. He is a real winner, a bit like kevin nolan at newcastle or john terry at chelsea.
When the team is looking for inspiration and a bit of grit, often needed away at West Ham on a Sunday afternoon, it is no where to be seen from Gerrard.
1st half was atrocious from us and to be fair it didn't help that danny wilson had a few wayward passes in that half. Much better in second half but it doesn't help.
To add to our troubles Kelly pulls his hamstring and we are now left with our left back problem re-emerging.
Glen Johnson will go to right back... Which to be fair is his best position, I think we should continue with wilson on the left or stick in Aurelio as we get more quality deliveries from that wing. Secondly I would go to 3 at the back again with agger, skretel and carra.
That way Agger can act as the ball playing DM when we go forward and can drop back when we defend. Same with the wing backs. (Ref chelsea win 1-0)
Second half was better and it was a wonder goal by west ham's demba ba but really west ham never should have got the ball through the midfield so easily and no-one picked up gary o'neill for the cross. He had no pressure on him.
Seeing as how he played right mid typically that would have been danny wilson's man to pick up... But I would have to see the situation again to make a fair judgement.
Frustrated... We should have put this game to bed in the first half with an early goal and with the fragile state of Hammers these days (at least before this game) going a goal down to a top 5 team would have been hard to come back from.
Really I just have to give west ham credit and it is unfair to them to talk about what could have been for us.
I am just a frustrated fan wishing we showed a bit more fighting spirit in this game.
We can in fact fault the effort of most of our players in this game.
Suarez, kuyt, glen johnson and reina and cole excluded maybe... But how many of them play through the middle.[Core of the team]... 1 isolated up front on his own!
Before I finish I should mention that gerrard starts creating in the in the last 10 minutes but why not do that from the get go.... Creates a whole different attitude for the whole team... One of motivation, anticipation and belief!
