Today was a massive test of Liverpool's resolve and it looked like we were going to come under pressure after going ahead so early.
The players showed spirit and great effort to compete with Chelsea's quiality packed midfield, and Alonso especially showed today that we were lucky to keep him through the summer.
One wonders if we would have done so well had Gareth Barry come in. Currently we are sitting top of the table with a 7 - 2 - 0 record. Could you ask for much more. I think we have coped terrifically well without Torres. Do not really know if I expected that but I have been impressed and proven wrong. One of Benitez's greatest moves in the transfer market this summer was getting rid of John Arne Riise. I am sad to say it but we was the weakest part of our defence and now we have Aurelio back fit and playing a lot of games and Andrea Dossena finding his feet in PL. Aurelio had a great game today and if he would not be so injury prone he would make that left back position his own.
Although we did not have the lion share of posetion today we had a very organised side, credit to Rafa for that. At the same time we have managed to keep our attacking flair and our counter attacks always looks promising. Riera coming in has done so much better than I expected. Again today, particularly in the first half, he holds up the ball and takes on one or two players creating problems for Boswinga time and time again.
You have to say Benitez looks to have made a perfect bargain buy for our team and judging on Albert's performances so far he looks well worth the money. Hopefully he can just get better. His arial strength is another of his assets, and he looks a completely different and more confident player than a few years ago when he was at Man City.
Towards the end today I did not really feel that we were that threatened.
That bodes well for the future. For the first time in a while I genuinely believe we can win the title, given that we do not slip up agianst the likes of Stoke etc.
