I appreciate John Henry is trying to communicate with the fans here but honestly John, you could have apologized for getting wrong this time around as well.
I completely agreed the transfer window did not look too shabby before the last day of the window but then we lost Adam which is a good squad player (maybe not a bad idea but still) and then we lost the only recognized striker despite him being useful and by far the best option after Suarez up front.
He also offers something different. With that in mind should we not have kept him until January?
Maybe as I argued if we want to maximize his value it was the right move to sell him but then we should have been sure to have a back up option ready. The fact that we did not is a mistake and a failure to cough up the extra two million it would have cost to sign dempsey (spurs got him fro 6.1M - oh and that is Tottenham not San Anotonio).
6.1M would not even come close to over paying for a man that scored 17 goals in the PL last year (Dempsey).
I understand the need to get value but where was this thinking on the Carroll, Henderson, Downing and Adam deals. Yes you admit mistake there but to blame it on Damien Commolli and Kenny Daglish is not all fair.
There were clearly value in this transfer window (Scott Sinclair for £5M, Adam Johnson for £10M and Michu for £3M are a few brilliant examples. Even Aruna Kone when we wanted to let Carroll go would be a better option to get us by a few years at £5M). These are all relatively young players with potential. Matt Phillips was another one I would have liked to see us sign with bags of potential. He has scored loads of goals at Blackpool and already proven when they were in the premier league that he can cut it.
Why not hire someone with experience of sucess in the transfer window. Like Harry Rednapp?
Damien Commolli did not have that...
Please look at my last blog post as well Mr. Henry. You have just made Mr. Rodgers job that much harder.
YNWA,
