What a team we have got this year. Torres was out and Mascherano, and Skretel.. our best defender so far this season has gotten injured as well. We still managed to pull off another comeback and a deserved one as well.
Personally I was happy to see Jermaine get his first start of the season. He has been patient and played well in the games he has gotten. A couple of reserve outings and a carling cup game is not enough if we want to keep develop this player however. I think he has bags of potential. He showed that with an assist in the game and should have had another one on the header that Riera missed.
And that brings me on to anonther great buy by benitez. I really did not have any faith in this player after seeing him play for Man City a few years ago, but he has provided the width we have needed for so many seasons. He looks like a much more confident and physical player than last time I saw him and I am delighted he has performed as well as he has. The first goal in the league will just give him confidence as well and hopefully he will continue to improve.
Agger will find his feet and I am glad he managed to come up with that assist after that massive blunder at the start of the game today. Speaking of the blunder. I think we should be starting to looking into siging Zaki sooner rather than later. He is just a class act and if we could get a physical presence like that alongside Kuyt, Keane and Torres I think our attack would be complete.
Kuyt had an excellent game and as my buddy Benny has been telling me for a while now, he has been played too much in the wrong position. I am starting more and more to agree with him. Kuyt is a good finisher and although he only has a fraction of the talent that Torres and eg. Pennant has he works harder than everyone else in the team and make sure he chips in with a goal here or there if he get a chance in the centre.
He is also getting more and more praise for his performances and that is obviously helpign his confidence. If Pennant can improve his defensive workrate and the tactical part of his game I think we could see Torres and Kuyt playing together up front. With the way Chelsea and Man united is playing at the moment we need to have strength in depth and competition for places, and this year for the first time I think we are getting that. Being able to put Agger in for Skertel despite his error today, is an option that we simply did just not have last season. Skertel only arrived in January and Agger was out for a lot of the season. I think Hyppia is a good fourth choice as well and that Sami is happy to come and play a cameo role every once in a while.
I still do not think that we have hit top form yet but if we keep winning and playing the way we have, with a fighting spirit, it is just a matter of time before we get there.

So what do you think of Liverpool's start to the season? I think we have started off quite well and we haven't hit top form yet. Its sad that Fernando is injured again but I am glad how other players have taken on responsibility. I loved how we came from behind to beat Manchester United, Manchester City and Wigan recently. I think we have more commitment this year and I am glad we have a bit of width in the team. I liked how we started with Riera and Pennant yesterday. I think it is time we give Pennant a wee run in the team. What do you think of our start so far this season. I am so glad we kept Xabi because he has been very impressive and Kuyt has been immense recently. I won't lie but I haven't been a supporter of Dirk for some time and wanted to get rid of him due to his lack of goals but now he has scored in our last three games. I am a bit disappointed with our defense because we haven't kept many clean sheets so far and I am sad that Skrtel is out till Christmas. Anyway, I am sure in a few games time Agger will show the presence he had a couple of seasons ago.
What do you think of Dossena? Not sure if you read some comments he made in last weeks Italian press saying he only came to Liverpool because they offered the most money and is concerned with the currently economic crisis in England. I was very disappointed to read this. Not the kind of player that will warm to the Anfield crowd!!!
How do you think we should sign in the January transfer window? Heskey? Aguero? Bentley?

Agree with what you are saying about width below. Riera is looking much better than I expected and Pennant had an alright game. He will need to work on his defensive qualities if he is going to stay in the team however.
His tackles are at the wrong times and all over the place and tactically, in terms of placement etc. I think he is simply not good enough.
His strength is his ability of getting around a player or getting a cross into the box. In that area he is unrivalled in the PL.
For that simple reason I think he creates more goals than he concedes and with playing time he will be more accommodative to learning the tactical side of the game. The question is if he gets that time and trust from Benitez to fulfill his potential. He has got an amazing talent but I think the discipline aspect is what led to his departure from Gunners….
In terms of Dossena I do not think he has benefited from being left on the bench as soon as Aurelio is fit. Sayin that he should have played better, but I want to give him a chance. So far I think he has done better than Riise did last season and hopefully he can adapt to the PL the way Arbeloa, Skertel and Kuyt have done. He has got more pace than Riise but both Andrea and Daniel is looking a bit rusty at the moment. Eg. like when Valencia got that cross in to Zaki’s second goal.
We do have more strength in depth this year and I think that is why we have managed to win against city and wigan the last two games. At the same time we have been a bit lucky. Hate to admit it but just love the way Rafa is going more for the win this season.
This weekend when he put in two wingers for the two wingbacks when we were down 2-1 shows he means business this season. I still think Man u and Chelsea have got a better squad than us but whilst saying that we have got the better manager. My guess is still Chelsea to win the league… but… I think we can be in it until the bitter end. Hopefully we will sign another quality player in the January transfer window. We will see what Benitez can pull out of the bag. With the credit crisis and the amount of debt the Americans have pushed onto the club I am not so sure Mr. Benitez will have too much money to spend.
Your thoughts?
